13 magical years of bringing local makers and community together
In 2009, one of our directors, Teresa Mills, a local mosaic artist, came up with a great idea. To connect the community with talented local crafters and create a collective where craftspeople could meet and support each other.
So, the first Craft Coop event was born, starting with a traditional Christmas Craft fair and pop-up events. This was followed by six-week pop-up stores in the Maidenhead town centre. Craft Coop worked with the Enjoy Maidenhead Team and the Nicholson Centre using empty shop units and making them their own every six weeks.
In 2013, Craft Coop became a Community Interest Company and took on a longer-term lease in the Nicholsons Centre in Maidenhead. We now also have shops in the neighbouring towns of Windsor, High Wycombe, and Camberley.
We are delighted to be a social enterprise that showcases hundreds of local talented makers and craftspeople in our shops and online store. We love flying the flag for independent shops in our local town centres. Craft Coop prides itself on showcasing unique and beautiful handmade gifts that you can’t find anywhere else.
We host regular events, activities, workshops and meet the maker events at our shops. Community is at the heart of everything we do, and we re-invest any profit we make back into the community.
Craft Coop has received numerous awards and recognition. The shops have consistently placed in the Finals of the Muddy Stilettos Awards for Best Gift Shop. We were also awarded the Best Gift Shop in the Berkshire Awards in 2019.
