How to become a Cooper

If you would like to sell your handcrafted products in one or more of our shops, here’s what you should know:

  • Work sold in the shops must be crafted or designed by you.
  • All products must be covered by product liability insurance.
  • As a member of the community, we expect you to do a shift (one morning or afternoon) in the shop for each week your products are sold there.
  • Your products must conform to Trading Standards and Copyright rules and be of high quality.
  • You will be charged a weekly base rate for your space, and 10% commission + VAT on sales (this ends up being 12%). We make every attempt to keep the prices as reasonable as possible. The weekly rate differs depending on which shop you are part of but is currently around £15/week for a shelf.
  • Our decision to accept you to sell in one of the shops will depend on whether there is space for your products – both in terms of physical space, and in terms of overlap with other products. This is to keep a good balance of items in the shop.
  • We would like you to join your closest shop. Although you are welcome to apply for space in more than one shop, priority is given to local craftspeople first. In the case of sellers with similar products applying at the same time, the most local person will be given priority.
  • As a Craft Coop “Cooper” you will be part of a large group of like-minded craftspeople who are happy to give advice and support. Craft Coop also organises business support workshops as well as purely social meetings.

We hope this gives you a bit of a flavour of what we’re looking for and what it’s like to be part of Craft Coop. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or would like to know more: info@craftcoop.co.uk
