Hi, I'm Madeline! 👋 I make bespoke, handmade jewellery from polymer clay. Each pair of earrings is one-of-a-kind. Because of the techniques I use when making the clay pieces, I can't get the same cut twice even if I wanted to! My favorite feedback I get from customers is that they get so many compliments while wearing my earrings. It makes me happy to know my makes help people feel good about themselves.

My earrings are light as a feather. People are constantly shocked when they pick them up and discover that it feels like you're wearing nothing at all. I can also change most of my earrings into clip-ons or swap them to silver. Get in touch with me at ofbooksandhooks@gmail.com if you have any questions or DM me on Instagram!

  • What's the first craft you ever learned?

Oof! We'd have to go way back to childhood... but the first craft I actively learned for business reasons was crochet! I'm left-handed, so it was really hard to learn crochet. I had to download YouTube videos and inverse them so I could see it from a left-handed perspective.

  • At what age did you start crafting?

    I can't remember a time I wasn't crafting.

  • What's one craft/skill you've always wanted to learn?

I've always wanted to learn how to sew my own clothes!

  • When did you start your business?

I started selling crochet patterns in 2018, but I only started making polymer clay in November 2021.

  • What inspired you to start crafting?

I have always found it cathartic. Creativity is one of my core values as a person and crafting has always been a part of who I am!

  • What do you love most about being creative?

It makes me a great problem-solver! There's really nothing I can't do if I put my mind to it and employ my creative juices.

  • What's your favourite material to work with?

    Clay, obviously!

  • What's one piece of advice you'd give your younger self?

Don't make it about the money. Do it for your soul. When it becomes about the money, make it about your soul, again!

  • What's your LEAST favourite part about running a craft business?

The admin and accounting. OMG - I get so stressed about it, I could cry.

  • What's your MOST favourite part about running a craft business?

Talking to customers. When someone tells me that my earrings make them feel good because they get compliments, or they comment on how my work makes them feel in general, it makes my heart sing!

  • What's the funniest thing a customer has ever said to you?

"Oh, I have FIMO at home. I could do this."
